Opera in the Schools Program

Goals

  • To educate children about what an opera is
  • To expose children to an appealing story or scenes set to vocal music
  • To stimulate interest in this uncommon art form

The Program

The program is an overview of what makes an opera:

  • Different voice types (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) with demonstration of their qualities

  • How the  elements of opera (costumes, sets, acting, music) help tell the story

  • What makes opera different from musical theater

A 30-60 minute program of brief opera scenes are staged.  Scenes are planned to engage the imagination and interest of children of various ages, while demonstrating opera's unique flavor.
